2. Oracle System Verification Utilities

Oracle is now providing useful system verification utilities that can help ensure that your system meets installation requirements. Please see metalink note 283743.1 for an example of this on AIX.

When you run these utilities you get a nice concise pass/fail report and then a more detailed log file to explain the passes/fails that the utility found.

Example follows:

a) Running the utility:

$ validate 10g_rdbms_aix_hcve_031305.txt
!! Warning !!
Can't find $ORACLE_HOME environment variable
This is normal for pre-install type validations but has to be set for others
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Health Check/Validation (V 01.07.00)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Validation Rule Engine" will be run in following environment:
HOSTNAME    :
USERNAME    : oracle
ORACLE_SID  :
ORACLE_HOME :
If this is not correct environment
Please set correct env parameters and rerun the program
Would you like to continue [Y]es/[N]o (Hit return for [Y]es) : y

     Test [ FAILED ] :

     The AIXTHREAD_SCOPE environmental variable is not correct.

     ReturnValue        Action
     ---------------------------------------------------------------------
     AIXTHREADNotSet AIXTHREAD_SCOPE should be set to S in the
     environment
     AIXTHREAD_SCOPEBad AIXTHREAD_SCOPE is set but not set to S, please
     reset the
                        value to S in the environment

Notice that according to the note any problems you have with the utility should NOT go to metalink support but to st_automation group. I have not found a way of finding ALL of these documents yet but a metalink search on "Pre-Install checks for " and then click on 'restrict search to OSS Support Tools" works very nice.
